Why switch to digital?

If you currently receive RTE1, RTE2, TV3, TG4, BBC1, BBC2, UTV and Channel 4 through your analogue TV aerial then you will need to switch to digital before 2012 as the analouge TV channels are being phased out.

Will I need a new TV to view digital channels?

No. You can keep your existing TV to watch all digital Free-to-Air channels. You will need to purchase a digital Set Top Box and for UK channels you will need a satellite dish installed.

Do I need a HDMI or Scart input on my TV to get Saorview channels?

Ideally Yes. If you want to view digital channels in HD then you will need to connect you Set Top Box to your TV with a HDMI cable.

Why move from Sky or UPC to Free-to-Air?

To save money. If you have a contract with Sky or UPC then you are probably paying at least €600 a year. Is this really worth it if 90% of the channels you watch are available for free.

If I have a UK Freeview box or TV can I get Saorview?

Probably not. Freeview is a UK free-to-air television service available through your tv aerial.

When will the digital switch over happen?

The date has been set for Analogue Switch Off (ASO) or Digital Switch Over (DSO). This will happen on 24th October 2012. After this date you will no longer be able to watch analogue TV.
